As from 2021, the European Commission will propose, in line with the Horizon Europe programme objectives, the development of inclusive gender equality plans with Member States and stakeholders in order to promote EU gender equality in R&I.
This has been announced in the Communication “A new ERA for R&I” – COM(2020)628. The EU Commission states that despite the continuous policy attention to gender equality in R&I, progress has been slow and remains insufficient. While equality has nearly been reached in PhD graduates, only 24% of top positions in the higher education sector are occupied by women.
As explained in the Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 and confirmed during the 2020 European Research & Innovation Days held in September 2020, the Commission will introduce new measures to strengthen gender equality in Horizon Europe, such as the requirement of a gender equality plan from applicants and an initiative to increase the number of women-led technology start-ups. Funding for gender and intersectional research will also be made available.
With LeTSGEPs we are already working in this direction and our implementing partners within the Consortium will adopt their Gender Equality Plans in the coming months.
