On the 4th of February 2021, the LeTSGEPs team at the University of Tirana organized the first workshop of the project for the Local National Stakeholders in Albania. The event took place online on Google Meet platform from 10.00 to 11.30 effective time and brought together more than 30 participants who represented various important national stakeholders. The Head of the Commision for Gender Equality of the Parliament of Republic of Albania, head of Women Alliace of the Parliament of Albania, the Commisioner for Protection against Discrimination in Albania, The Analyst of the Program for Gender Issues Population and Development of UNFPA, the Head of the National Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation, the Head of Democratization Department (Humam Rights and Gender) at OSCE, the Leader of the Equality in Decision Making Network, the Head of the National Institute of Statistics as well as representatives from other Universities of Albania were but some of the participants at this event.
The objective of this first presentation of the LeTSGEPs Project to the National Stakeholders was to present the purpose, activities, and perspectives of this project, as well as to establish networking with the various stakeholders in order to foster further collaboration and acquire the needed support from them.
The University of Tirana is the only partner representing Albania in the project with the aim to introduce Gender Equality Plans and Budgets. The vice rector of the University of Tirana, Associated Professor Bernard Dosti opened the event. He emphasized the importance of having projects on the field of gender equality which make University of Tirana to stand out among other universities in Albania as the first to try to implement a formalized Gender Equality Plan. Professor Dosti reinforced once again the support for the project from top level governing bodies and structures of University of Tirana.
Present at the meeting, the coordinator of LeTSGEPs, Professor Tindara Addabbo, stressed the importance of GEPs for the RPOs and Universities and interacted with the participants who showed interest for this project. The mentor of UT, Associated Professor Ulpiana Kocollari also greeted the event and mentioned the great importance of such plans for Universities.
Next Mrs. Eglantina Gjermeni, Head of the Commision for Gender Equality issues of the Parliament of Republic of Albania and Mrs. Elona Gjebrea from the The Alliance of Women in Parliament of Albania greeted the event by expressing the political goodwill to support the initiatives towards gender equality and the necessity that RPOs should be more involved in advancing gender equality in their curricula as well.
The local coordinator of the LeTSGEPs Project for the University of Tirana, Professor Ingrid Shuli presented more details about the project, the current context of gender equality in Albania, and especially in education system and University of Tirana. Prof. Shuli explained the steps that LeTSGEPs has undertaken so far and also mentioned some of the challenges encountered and also expected for the future, requiring the cooperation and collaboration from all the involved present stakeholders. Next, Associated Professor Etleva Leskaj and Associated Professor Merita Xhumari, two other members of the LeTSGEPs team, focused their presentation on the role of various stakeholders in implementing effective GEPs in RPOs and the importance of training for capacity building and know how transfers.
Many other participants expressed their availability to supply necessary informations and to support the project, namely the Director of the Institute of Statistics of Albania and the Director of the National Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation. Participants from other public Universities in Albania, also expressed their interest to be part of future activities that will be organized in the framework of this project.
The event was overall characterized by a very positive and friendly reception and by the affirmation of support from the invited participants, who all expressed the eagerness to be important and active collaborators of LeTSGEPs actitivites in the future within the scope of their Institutions.
